Surface temperature is the first decision

Anyone who has crossed a dark pool deck in a Florida August knows the problem. Colour and material change surface temperature far more than people expect, and no amount of hosing fixes a deck that was specified wrong.

Travertine runs coolest, followed by light-tone concrete pavers. We lay samples in direct sun so you feel the difference standing on them, not reading about it.

Grip when the surface is wet

A pool deck is wet by design. Textured paver surfaces grip better than smooth poured concrete, and because water drains through the joints it does not sheet across the top the way it does on a slab.

That combination is why paver decks feel more secure underfoot around a pool, and it is worth more than any visual detail on the deck.

Drainage, coping and the pool shell

Water has to leave the deck without running back toward the coping or pooling at the screen track. We set the fall deliberately and detail the edge against the shell so movement in the deck never transfers to the pool structure.

On a screened cage we work around the track and posts, cutting the field cleanly rather than leaving a filled gap that collects debris.

Replacing a cracked concrete pool deck

Most of what we replace is old poured concrete that has cracked, lifted at a joint or lost its texture. Because pavers are individual units, a future repair means lifting a few and resetting them, not resurfacing the whole deck.
