Why a paver driveway outlasts concrete in Tampa
A concrete driveway answers ground movement the only way it can: with a crack across the middle. Florida ground moves — sandy soil shifts, summer storms saturate it, tree roots push. Pavers are individual units on a compacted base, so the field flexes with the ground instead of fighting it.
When a section does settle, we lift those units, correct the base underneath and set them back down. You repair a patch, not a driveway. There is no seam to patch and no colour mismatch to live with. If a surface has already started to move, that is exactly what our paver repair service corrects.
The base is 80% of the job
Almost every failed driveway we are called to fix failed underneath. The pavers were fine; the base was thin, poorly compacted, or laid without a plan for where the water would go.
We excavate to the depth the soil actually needs, build the base in lifts and compact each one, set the slope so water leaves the surface, then restrain every edge. That sequence is what you are paying for, and it is the part you will never see.
Materials, patterns and borders
Concrete pavers cover the widest range of colour and price. Brick reads traditional and holds tone for decades. Travertine runs cooler underfoot and suits homes that already use it around the pool.
Herringbone is the strongest pattern for a driveway because the interlock resists tyre torque. A contrasting border course frames the field and hides the cuts along the edge. We bring samples and lay them in daylight before you decide.
